May 16th: Another stay at the hospital.

Monday, May 16th, 2005: Last night Leela was admitted to the hospital. While all looked pretty good immediately following her latest cycle of chemo (See our May 13th post), on Saturday and Sunday she was getting increasing fatigued. She had a fever when I went to check on her before going to bed around 11pm, and as we have described in previous posts, fevers mean an automatic trip to the hospital for kids on chemo. We were surprised that they admitted her rather than just dole out some antibiotics then send us home. Her immunity had fallen quite a bit from where it was prior to this chemo cycle, and expecting it to fall even further over the next few days the doctors decided to admit her, as is the standard practice in such cases. While the fever is almost certainly not the result of a bacterial infection, a hospital admission is routine these situations as a precaution.

I left Leela and Geetha at Children's at 3am to go home and get some sleep. Geetha will stay with Leela today and I will start my 24 hour hospital shift this evening. My Dad and Susan are visiting us, so that will help out a lot with logistics and looking after Maya.
