Wednesday, June 1st, 2005: Monday was Leela’s fourth birthday. We had a very small party. Despite having a small party, Leela was thrilled. On Friday we found out that Leela’s blood test indicated that she was extremely immune suppressed, so the recommendation was to keep her away from large groups. It is hard to know what to make of these tests. Leela had been going to school all last week. She had been feeling great which is not necessarily inconsistent with immune suppression but the normal situation is for immune suppression to be associated with fatigue. Leela was released from the hospital almost a week before with an ANC of 522. On Friday she clocked in at 376. Normally we would have expected her to be around seven or eight hundred. Unfortunately I have lost confidence in these tests.

Assuming that all of her “levels” are back up by then, Leela will receive her next cycle of chemo a week from tomorrow and the day after (June 9th and 10th). We are all hoping that the aftermath is not like what happened following the last cycle.
