July 29th: Positive cultures and in the hospital.
|
Friday, July 29th, 2005 (1 a.m.): I am just back from dropping Geetha and Leela off at Children’s Hospital. The ink on my last post (see here) was barely dry when we got a call from the Oncology Fellow on-call to say that the blood cultures taken earlier in the day had come up positive for two types of bacteria. When we put Leela to bed tonight (at home) she had no fever and most of the afternoon she seemed to be feeling pretty good. Leela’s nurse took her temperature again during the admission procedure at 11pm. It was normal. However, of all of the times she has had fever since starting chemo this is the first time her blood culture was positive for an infection. During these hospitalizations our routine is for us to take alternating 24-hour shifts in the hospital, switching in the evening. The off duty parent is responsible for delivering coffee and breakfast in the morning. The routine will be a little easier this time because Maya is in Oregon for a week with my parents. I will post again when there is something new to report. |
