March 19th: Surgery and back home.

March 19th: Miraculously Leela had a normal temperature Friday morning when the nurse took her pre-op vitals. Thanks to everyone for those cooling prayers and thoughts. Despite some delay she did have the surgery and had a full day of “health care” on Friday.

I was expecting to be relieved when she was brought into the OR. I thought our primary source of stress was the delay in her treatment. But I felt no relief when Leela was lead away.

The surgeon told us that the surgery went well. Leela went from post-op to the “hemonc” (i.e., hematology/oncology) ward, to radiology for an MRI and x-ray, and back to hemoc for the majority of her first chemotherapy treatment.

THE GOOD NEWS FROM FRIDAY: All of the tests we have result from so far show no evidence that the cancer has spread. That is, 3 out of the 4 tests. The final test result is due in day or so.

Leela watched TV and slept most of the day. Given the surgery, the sedative for the MRI, and the chemo Leela did great. It all went reasonably well given the situation. We made it home with Leela around 5pm.

Spending some time on the hemoc ward is an eye opening experience. While there, it is hard to feel that we have it bad. We left after one night. I don’t think anyone else went home today, and my guess is, we were the only ones to arrived on the ward on Friday.
