April 1st: On course.

Friday, April 1, 2005: Leela has been feeling great this week. All of the tests done so far show no evidence that the cancer has spread. Still given how things went with this first course of chemo, we could be in for a long and difficult spring and summer.

Beginning a couple of days ago Leela started losing her hair. As of today it is not too noticeable. It just looks thinner to us who know, but I think soon it will be quite obvious.

Leela went to school in the mornings this week starting on Wednesday. Not knowing exactly what her immunity level was, aside from school, we kept her out of circulation with other kids.

Today was her first blood test since she was discharged from the hospital on Saturday morning. Her levels were higher than when she left the hospital, but they are still not up to where the doctors would have expected them to be. So we still have to be careful.

Assuming her ANC is good, Leela will receive her next round of chemo on April 14th and 15th. Hopefully she will stay healthy until then and sail through this next round without all of the complications she experienced in the first round.

Since Leela’s diagnosis it has been a very difficult time for us, but it would be a hell of a lot worse without the support we have been getting from friends and family. Family members have flown in from New England and the West Coast to help out. Friends have organized meal deliveries from families in the neighborhood. Everyone at the girls' schools have been great. We have always been able to find someone to help look after Maya when we have had to be at an appointment or the hospital with Leela. And just hearing from everyone and knowing that they are thinking and praying for Leela has really helped us so far. Thanks for all of the help; it is greatly appreciated.
